Won’t Somebody Think of the Parents! Supporting Neurodivergent Parents and Families

"Feeding challenges are commonly observed in neurodivergent children and families. Brain differences can impact feeding abilities, food preferences and the ability to meal plan and prepare meals. Neurodivergent parents face particular difficulties when it comes to feeding their families."

Course Description:

The webinar will provide an overview of the Neurodiversity-Affirming Model™ and its use when working with neurodivergent families. Participants will learn key factors that make family meals and meal planning difficult for neurodivergent families. There will be a focus on supporting families with sensory processing differences and executive functioning differences. The facilitator will go over simple strategies related to menu adaptations, meal planning and meal preparation. Accommodations will also be discussed.

Considerations need to be made regarding the unique needs of all family members, which can make implementing family meals challenging. Professionals need to have a thorough understanding of how neurodivergencies can impact eating and need to be well equipped to support these families in a way that feels validating and affirming.
